From SLC
Hello,
TPL items have been moved to the shadowed location, SLC STORAGE. This is exactly as it was for MCL items. This means that when you check in TPL items, the computer will tell you to send them to SLC. DO NOT SEND TPL ITEMS TO SLC. If the items belong to TPL, send them to TPL with a yellow in-transit slip (include the date the item was returned on the slip, along with the library's three-letter code).
We also removed MCL items (except for the foreign language item cat 1's that MCL/SHL asked us not to remove. We also DID NOT remove MCL items that are reference materials). However, items that have checkouts/bills/holds attached to them for MCL and TPL (or are currently in-transit) items cannot be shadowed, nor removed. They are still in the system. SLC sent each library reports previously listing these bills/charges/holds. They need to be manually taken care of in order for these items to be removed from the system.
If your library received MCL items, you will most likely have to do the cataloging yourselves now since most of MCL items have been purged.
SLC purged MCL and TPL patrons yesterday. However, if a patron has bills/holds/charges attached to their card, they cannot be removed from the system. These need to be manually taken care of. Also, TPL patrons that have used their card in the past year were NOT purged.
TPL asked if SLC could wait until October 1, 2009 to expire those TPL patrons that have used their cards in the past year. So on October 1, these patrons will automatically expire. This way, SLC shared system libraries can modify these cards to a TPL-RB profile. REMEMBER: Verify from the patron's proper identification that they LIVE in Troy. They will need a TPL home library card BEFORE they can get a TPL-RB card. If they are an expired TPL patron, and they have their card, you can modify the card at that visit. They only have to go to TPL first if they do not have a TPL home library card.
FYI: SLC will need to do some more item removals this weekend. We are working on the best possible way not to hold up the system when we do this. We appreciate your patience during this transition. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you!
