Internet Access questions
There have been some questions from patrons about "why the person next to them gets more time than them, etc."
Because of the way the system works:
Patron # 1 comes in, uses their most of their 30 minutes and then gets a ten minute extension. They now have 12 minutes remaining.
Patron #2, who came in a little later, comes in and has used 20 minutes of his original 30, and has 10 minutes left.
Patron #3 comes in and has to make a reservation for a machine.
The system will grab the machine with the least amount of minutes left. This means that "YES" Patron 2 will only get his 30 minutes and Patron #1 ultimately got more time.
Our policy (which patrons have to agree to to get onto the internet) states "Systems are available during regular library hours on a first-come/ first-serve basis. There will be a 30 minute time limit if patrons are waiting for computer access. "
Patrons are only "guaranteed" 30 minutes at a time. Any EXTRA time is just that Extra time. A bonus. A courtesy on behalf of the library during times we are not busy, etc. etc.
Hopefully this will help you explain to an upset patron what is going on.
"The library offers patrons a 30 minute sesssion. Any extra time is a courtesy offered during non-peak times" ...or something like that.
