OCLC and Melcat

SLC passed a new policy that will go into effect September 1, 2008 that states all SLC patrons will need to place and pickup up any Melcat and/or OCLC holds with their home library (the library their card is issued from).

This will be a change for some of "our" patrons that place OCLC holds with us, but have their card from another library.

We will make up some bookmarks explaining this and make sure every OCLC hold that comes in between now and Sep 1 has one put in it. Reference will also get some of these bookmarks, so you can hand it to any of these patrons if questioned about it.

This will give up a couple months to either reeducate the patron's to go to their "home" library or encourage the patron to get a card from us.

What this will mean in the longrun is:
1. If the item can be obtained from within SLC, they can place the hold at any library and pick it up from any library.
2. If the item has to come from outside the coop, all SLC libraries will be saying the same thing. "All materials obtained from outside our cooperative must be placed and picked up at the library where the patron's card was issued."
