Volunteers not going in front
Effective immediately, volunteers are not allowed in the front area (circ, kitchen, etc.)
The shelf-reading log and the volunteer log are now kept in the back storage room, hanging from the first of the rolling storage shelves.
It will be explained to our REGULAR volunteers if they bring in any valuables, they will need to bring a padlock and we will supply them a locker to lock them in. (We MAY be able to supply the locks, not sure yet). This way they are not being left behind circ, where the library is way too responsible for them.
Also, circulation is too crowded and busy to have volunteers wandering around or stopping them to ask for the log, supplies, or to keep/get their coat/purse.
Circulation also counts money after each shift in the back part of circ and volunteers think this is where they can take a break.
Volunteers can knock on the back door (in the lounge) where there are more staff and it's a different kind of interruption than up front. They can hang their coats on the coatrack in the back and put their stuff in the locker if necessary.
We currently have 8 regular volunteers and if possible I am going to try to continue to increase this number. We have Joanne, Kathy, & Diane who cover books. Lillian who repairs CD's. Vincent who straightens and dusts (and checks easys), Alice who shelf-reads, and now we have Two Elders from the Morman church who will be also doing shifting and shelf-reading.
If I have any "temporary" volunteers, I will explain up front they are not allowed in the staff area and they need to keep valuables at home or in their car.
We are only going to allow volunteers that we know/trust in the BACK staff areas.
