Staff and Holds

It is becoming an increasing problem that Staff members are placing holds and NOT checking them out.

Staff has been walking up to circ, pulling their holds off the shelf, and walking away with them without checking them out. It is too easy to then forget you have the item since it is not listsed on your WF record.

If a hold comes in and you have since changed your mind about it, then just give circ a call and let them know to please pull and cancel the hold on that item.

After an item sits on the hold shelf (in the system) after 9 days, the system automatically pulls the item off HOLDS status and checks into TRANSIT back to the home library or to the next person in the hold que. Even if the book isn't really physically there.

Then the owning library and CHE are checking for this book month after month when we get our monthly In Transit reports. Eventually checking these items out to Discard.

All this can be avoided by the following procedure:
Holds are NOT to leave the circ desk unless they are checked out. Period.

The same holds true for CHE items on shelf. If you pull an item from the shelves for yourself, walk directly to the circ desk and check it out please. Do not take it back to your desk with the thought," I'll do it later."

Thank you for you cooperation.
