New Items

Effective immediately the library is changing it's interloan procedure on "New" items.

All "New" items that come in from now on will have an item type of "New Item".

Items with this Item Type will NOT go out on interloan and are holdable for our patrons only (Patrons with a 21520 library card) until the items are taken off of "New" status.

This should only be a "problem" if CHE is the only library that owns the item and a patron with another libraries card wants to place a hold on it.

If the item is checked in and on shelf this will have no effect on a patron being able to check it out (any library card number will be able to check it out), just on placing it on hold or getting a hold filled.

If a patron with another library card number places the hold (because more than CHE has a copy in the system) the hold will take, but that person will be passed up by CHE patrons on the hold list (my patron first). If all CHE holds are filled the item WILL sit on shelf until the item comes off of "New" status. At that point the item would kick up the hold for the non-CHE library card holder if they were still in the hold que.

Soo...in a nutshell..CHE's new items are only available for CHE patrons unless the patron comes in and picks the item up off the shelf to check out, there will not be holds/interloans for "New" CHE items until they are no longer "New".

PLEASE ask me about this if it is not entirely clear!

Thanks,
Lynn

P.S. the reason for this is so when our patrons come into the library there will be a better selection of "New" items on the shelf for them to pick from. With our current system a better part of half of our "New" items come in and immediately go out in delivery on hold. Because of this our patrons may not be aware of "New" items that are not from bestselling authors or maybe new authors are not "found."
