Commonly asked patron card questions

Common Patron card questions:

1. CHE Public card.
· There is no charge for this card.
· This card is for patrons who live in a community that supports an SLC library.
· This card can be used at all SLC libraries and can check out all circulating materials.
· This card can interloan items through SLC and MiLE and OCLC.

2. A CHE non-resident card
· There is a $25.00 annual fee.
· This card can be used at CHE only and can check out all circulating materials.
· This card can interloan items through MiLE only if that item is NOT available in SLC’s database.
· This card can NOT interloan items from OCLC through us, but would need to do so through their HOME library.
· From SLC they can only interloan from MCL.

3. A SLC non-resident card
· This card has a $200.00 annual fee.
· This card can be used at ALL SLC libraries and can check out all circulating materials.
· This card can interloan items through SLC and MiLE and OCLC.
· When one of these cards is issued, SLC is notified so they can then notify CMPL. That way the patron can also use at all CMPL libraries.

4. Michicard.
· There is no charge for this card and can only be used for print materials (no A/V) at all participating Michicard libraries.
· This card can interloan items through MiLE only if that item is NOT available in SLC’s database.
· This card can NOT interloan items from OCLC through us, but would need to do so through their HOME library.
· Interloans through SLC will come from Michicard participating libraries only.

In order for a patron to be registered as a Michicard patron here at CHE (the bulk of these are St. Clair County residents). The patron must:
a. Get a library card from their home library (that participates in Michicard).
b. Have their home library put a blue Michicard sticker on that library card.
c. Bring their home library card and a current photo I.D. into CHE.
CHE then enters that library card number into our system.

5. CHE courtesy card.
· There is NO charge for this card.
· This card can be used at CHE only and can check out all circulating materials.
· This card can interloan items through MiLE only if that item is NOT available in SLC’s database.
· This card can NOT interloan items from OCLC through us, but would need to do so through their HOME library.
· From SLC they can only interloan from MCL.

In order for a patron to get a courtesy card they must:
a. Show Proof they either work (current pay stub) or own property/business (current years property taxes) in Chesterfield Township.
b. Have current photo I.D.

6. There is no longer a Student card as any students that would not be eligible for a regular Public card are eligible for a Michicard.
